Friday Five: Things I'm Digging
Here are some of the things I've been digging during the first few months of 2014. I thought maybe you'd like them, too.
1. Sam Adams Cold Snap. Someone must have been listening when I complained offhand about not being into their Winter Ale after Christmas, but not quite ready for their Alpine Spring in January. Sam Adams' solution? An in-between seasons beer, Cold Snap. It's very good; definitely a reminder that spring is on its way. They've also come out with "Escape Route", another in-betweener, but I have yet to try it.
2. On-going Scrabble games. About a month ago, I mentioned to Steve that I'd love to play Scrabble, but I didn't have the patience to play an entire actual game. His solution? In our usual puzzle spot, he plopped down the Scrabble board, and we play a few turns a day, whenever we get the chance. The other person doesn't even need to be there. It's been a fun way to play an old favorite.
3. S'mores. Yup, you read that right. Sometimes when my usual piece of dark chocolate doesn't quite cut it, I make a s'more in the microwave. I lay half of a graham cracker on a paper towel, then half of a Hershey bar, and place a marshmallow on top of that. Microwave for 10 seconds, take out, and top with the other half of the graham cracker. Melty, chocolate goodness for only 190 calories!
4. The Signature of All Things by Elizabeth Gilbert. I will admit, I was slightly skeptical of this book at first because it is historical fiction, and that is not my usual cup of tea. A few pages in, I was pleasantly surprised to find myself reading along eagerly, wondering where the story was going. I just finished it last week and feel like I'm going through withdrawal. It was that good!
5. Movies, in general. I have watched more movies this winter than I have in ages. I believe this to be a good thing because it wasn't so long ago that I had a feeling a lot of great movies were passing me by. I've become friends with Redbox and use it often. The promo codes for free rentals definitely get me to go there more than I already was! It's been nice- actually sitting down with Steve and/or the kids and watching a movie in its entirety. It's not something I always take the time for.
What are you digging these days, readers? What's getting you through the long winter months?
